The Windmill stool stands out with its unique design and multifunctional features. The stool is made up of three metal sheets that form the legs, with a triangle-shaped metal sheet on top serving as the seat. The assembly is simple, requiring only screws to connect the different components. The hollow space between the seat and the legs provides a convenient storage area for books or magazines, adding to its functionality.
During the design process, Huang experimented with various materials, including wood and plastic, before settling on a 1mm metal sheet for its flexibility and strength. The manufacturing process involves using a plasma cutting machine to cut out the stool's form from the metal sheet. The finished metal sheets are then processed in a folding machine to create precise angles for the legs and other components. The use of screws for assembly allows for easy packing and delivery.
The Windmill stool's dimensions are 35mm in width, 31mm in depth, and 33mm in height, making it a compact and versatile piece of furniture. Its geometric form and vibrant colors make it an eye-catching addition to any room. Whether used as a stool, a side table, or a decorative element, the Windmill stool offers endless possibilities for arrangement and customization.
Not only does the Windmill stool provide a comfortable seating option, but it also adds a touch of modernity and creativity to any living space. Its multifunctional design allows for practical storage while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. Whether used individually or in combination with other Windmill stools, this design is sure to make a statement.
The Windmill stool project was initiated in October 2013 and completed in January 2014 at Kingston University London. It has received recognition for its ingenuity and creative design, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2015. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate exceptional technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
